About the Artist

Hi, I’m Sydney…

My creative journey started with fiber arts in 2020 and after a few years of learning and creating macrame and fiber pieces, I opened the door to a realm that I wasn’t unfamiliar with, but instead had closed lightly years ago: entomology.

My previous experience had been decidedly scientific. I had learned to identify, preserve, spread, and pin specimens the way one might see in a museum. But when I opened this door again, it looked so different. There were wildflowers and gold and beauty. There was beauty before, but this was entirely creative and purely magical. And so Moth & Moon curled up into its own chrysalis and morphed.

If you’re new to Moth & Moon, I create insect art and jewelry that are inspired by nature and her wonderful textures, beauty, oddities, and cycles. I love all things whimsical and magical, and I strive to emanate that in my work.

A few tidbits about me:

- I have a bachelor’s degree in zoology and environmental studies

- I’m obsessed with birds and bugs

- My husband and I have 4(!!) kids and a portion of my day is dedicated to homeschooling them

- I’m a Taurus sun, Capricorn moon, and Leo rising

- I consider myself a creative in the rawest sense, so don’t be surprised if you come across all sorts of creations here. I like to try things (and I will never fully leave fiber behind.) Macrame, seed beads, clay—it will all have a home here. *winks knowingly at all my fellow multi-passionate artists*
